Firefighters ‘Fill the Boot’ To fight Muscular Dystrophy
The annual “Fill the Boot” campaign began last weekend on Thursday, Aug. 30 and ran through Sunday, Sept. 2.
Brief: ‘Clash of the Cats’ To Collect Canned Food
Centreville and Oakton high school’s SGA programs are sponsoring “The First Annual Clash of the Cats Canned Food Drive.” The drive will take place on Nov. 2 along with the football game between the Centreville Wildcats and the Oakton Cougars.

The Regional Park Regatta on April 2 started out cold and rainy but by afternoon was a lovely day to be on the water at Sandy Run along the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station.

Alexandria Brief: Hearing Set for Arrested WMATA Officer
Nicholas Young, a Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority officer, was arrested Aug. 3 for allegedly providing material support to ISIS. Young, a Fairfax resident, appeared briefly in Alexandria’s Eastern District Courthouse where his defense waived his preliminary hearing. Young’s next court date is scheduled for Aug. 11 at 2 p.m.
Arlington Snapshot: Bike Rodeo
The Woman's Club of Arlington held a Bike Rodeo Aug. 20 after a 30-plus year break in what used to be an annual event sponsored by the club. Bike Arlington and Phoenix Bikes, provided the cone courses and, the expertise. The four youngsters, ages 3 -5 1/2 years had fun following the Bike Arlington volunteer.
