The Reston Raiders won their first game, 4-2, over a team from Arizona at the USA Hockey 12 and Under Tier II National Championships, which ran March 28 through April 1 at the twin rink Ashburn Ice House and SkateQuest Reston facilities.

Residents in Springfield are about to benefit from a national backpack giveaway campaign. The Cellular Connection, the largest Verizon Premium Wireless Retailer in the U.S., in a joint effort with its customers, will be donating 100,000 backpacks full of school supplies to children through its School Rocks Backpack Giveaway.

Mount Vernon: Service To Celebrate Joshua Owusu’s Life
Joshua Owusu, a sixth grade student at Stratford Landing Elementary School lost his battle with brain cancer on Tuesday, Sept. 26. A celebration of his life will be held Saturday, Oct. 8, 11 a.m., at Aldersgate Church, 1301 Collingwood Drive. A reception will immediately follow in Wesley Hall. Burial will be in Mount Comfort Cemetery, 6600 S. Kings Highway at 2:30 p.m.

Elisabetta Cantatore, 19, of Great Falls was named Miss Teen Virginia on Sunday, April 3 in Richmond, beating out 700 teen applicants from across the Commonwealth of Virginia, and 122 girls at the pageant itself.
