The Yorktown girls’ lacrosse program has dominated the National District to the tune of six consecutive championships. While keeping the streak alive is important to the Patriots, Yorktown enters the 2012 season with a bigger goal in mind: be competitive against teams outside of the district.

A tough stretch of the season has hit the Oakton High baseball team since the start up of play within the Concorde District schedule a few weeks ago. The Cougars, who were 6-1 at one point this spring, entered this week in the midst of a tough five-game losing streak.

Fairfax County’s Planning Commission will hold two workshops on Wednesday, Sept. 25 and Oct. 2 to expand the discussion about the proposed residential studio unit (RSU) amendment to the Zoning Ordinance. There will be a staff presentation on Sept. 25, and questions submitted online by citizens to the Planning Department will be answered in the second workshop on Oct 2. The plan is for both workshops to be televised on the county’s cable station.

Textbooks Africa in concert with Model Inc. presents “Take Notes!” Dinner and Fashion Show on Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Patriot Hall in Vienna. Textbooks Africa collects and ships used textbooks, library books and computers to schoolchildren in Africa. This non-profit brings together two vital concerns: education and the environment. Executive French Chef Bruno Bertin will present a full banquet menu. VIP tickets include wine pairings. Fashion show will feature an array of local emerging designers.
