Giving Presents to Homeless Animals
The holidays will be a little brighter for shelter pets, thanks to the efforts of Felicia Norman, owner of Walking The Dogs (www.walkingdogsva.com), a local dog walking and pet sitting company. Norman's daughter, Maggie, is pictured above with Delilah, who is looking for her forever home, at the Friends of Homeless Animals (FOHA) in Aldie, Va. Walking The Dogs joined forces with the National Association of Professional Pet Sitters for the third annual "Presents 4 Pets" campaign. Norman raised more than $4,000 in donations and products for the benefit of FOHA during National Animal Shelter Appreciation week, Nov. 3-9.

The grant followed the conclusion of BMW’s successful Restore the Outdoors campaign, which helped launch BMW’s new X1 crossover vehicle, and which spotlighted 12 park sites across the United States, including Riverbend Park in Great Falls.
Maddie’s Blankets Makes 10,000th Blanket
Maddie’s Blankets has announced that on Wednesday, Dec. 19, 2012, at Haycock Elementary School in Falls Church, Susannah Bianco, a fourth grade student at the school, made their 10,000th blanket. This blanket will be donated to the Lost Dog and Cat Rescue Foundation for use in their Tysons PetSmart animal adoption center.

Arlington Snapshot: Fall Heritage Festival
Dhaya Wood stuffs straw into hand-made scarecrows lined up on bales of hay while her brother Shaan (who has chosen his World Series team) looks for a refill at the Gulf Branch Fall Heritage Festival on Saturday, Oct.17. The festival gives children the experience of stepping back in history to recreate life in the early 1900s in Arlington. Dave Farner, park manager, says the festival had gone on long before the first one he did in 1998.
