Arlington County is offering a summer soccer clinic for adults — for total novices who would like to learn to play, and beginning / low intermediate players who want to improve their soccer skills. The six-week clinics will teach basic skills in dribbling, passing, shooting, and defense.

Parenting Strategies for Toddler Tantrums
The MOMS Club of Herndon is hosting guest speaker, Karla Fife, LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker), BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst), who will present a Parenting Strategies talk on Thursday, Nov. 21 from 10 a.m. – Noon at Trinity Presbyterian Church (615 Dranesville Rd, Herndon, VA 20170). Fife will discuss tactics for handling toddler tantrums and other basic strategies for dealing with the trials and tribulations of toddlerhood.

Fairfax County Police are investigating a fatal crash that took place on Franconia Road near the on-ramp for I395/I95 just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 9. Preliminary investigation reveals that an adult woman was crossing Franconia Road, not in a crosswalk, when a 2002 Ford pickup truck struck and killed the pedestrian.
Michael McCarty Elected to the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration
Michael McCarty, director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Fairfax, has been elected to the American Academy for Park and Recreation Administration. He was inducted in October at the Academy’s Annual Meeting during the National Recreation and Park Association Congress in Houston.

Nominations Open for Jean Tibbetts History Award
The Jean Tibbetts History Award honors outstanding contributors to the research, articulation, dissemination and preservation of the history of life along the Potomac River corridor from McLean to west of Dranesville and south through Herndon. Candidates for the Jean Tibbetts History Award are selected from annual nominations to the society and the award carries a stipend of $200. The awardee’s name is placed on the Great Falls Historians plaque, displayed in the Great Falls Library.
