Inside the classroom at the Nannie J. Lee Fire Department training Center, the children are taught what to do if they are awoken and smell smoke in the house or hear the smoke alarm going off. The are instructed to crawl to the nearest door and touch it with the back of their hand, so as not to burn their fingers and see if the door is warm.
