On Saturday, Oct. 20, Chandra and Derek Manning hosted an event inspired by their 6-year-old son, Aidan, called “Kids for Obama.” Eighteen Alexandria kids, ranging in age from nine months to 11 years old, supported the event by making Barack Obama campaign signs and paraded them to the corner of King Street and Russell Road, where passers by showed their support by honking. The children held their signs while singing an Obama-themed song, co-written by Aidan and his mother to the tune of President Lincoln’s 1860 campaign song called “Lincoln and Liberty” by Jesse Hutchinson Jr. The Kids for Obama included (alphabetically): Bridget Baron, 6; Campbell Boggess, 11; Mara Boggess, 8; Julia Cooper, 8; Sophie Dechant, 7; Ella Dechant, 5; Lilly Eckert, 8; Nyla Elder, 5; Rebecca Espach, 3; Sam Espach, 6; Mia Frangello, 6; Abby Gerstein, 6; Julia Knott, 4; Steven Knott, 9 months; Katie Ludke, 5; Aidan Manning, 6; Kieran Manning, 2, and McKechnie McCaslin, 7.
