Three protesters — Louise Filkins, Phil Letten and Nick Wallerstedt — inflated a 10-foot replica of a mother pig in a gestation crate on Richmond Highway at Kings Crossing on Sept. 17. The protesters from the national animal rights group, Mercy for Animals, were calling on Walmart to require its pork suppliers to phase out the practice of confining pigs in narrow crates — something Kroger, Safeway, Costco, and McDonald’s have recently done, they said.
