Mount Vernon resident Jay Spiegel found an injured red tailed hawk in his backyard on Sept. 15. With the assistance (above) of Steve Chaconas, and Animal Control Officer Pauline O'Connor, the injured osprey was captured and taken to a rehabilitation facility. The hawk, being cared for by Kent Knowles of the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia, is expected to make a full recovery and will soon be released into the wild. See www.raptorsva.org; the organization accepts contributions.
