Lois Walker -- Living Legend Profile...Having a transportation problem? Call Lois Walker. She has long been Alexandria's voice on transportation issues. During her six years on City Council, and continuing to the present, Walker has represented the City and its citizens on practically every local, state and regional transportation body, including a term as Board President of Virginia High Speed Rail. As a long-time local businesswoman, Walker Real Estate, she has represented Old Town businesses as President of KSMET, the Upper King Street merchants association. Walker served as the 2005 Chair of the Alexandria United Way campaign, been president of Agenda Alexandria, was founding president of Friends of the Torpedo Factory, and co-founded the Alexandria Commission on Information Technology and the Potomac West Business Alliance. On City issues she chaired both the King Street and Washington Street task forces as well as the Braddock Area Team. She also served on the Advisory Board of Healthy Families Alexandria. Walker was Vice Chair of the Steering Committee during the business community's attempt to establish the City's first Business Improvement District (BID) along the King Street corridor from the Metro station to the river.
