Shoppers at Hollin Hall Safeway had the festive joy of hearing James West on his coronet playing Christmas carols on a chilly, overcast Tuesday afternoon, Dec. 17. Standing a six-foot-four, West is originally from Kent, England. He now lives in Canada and works as a horticulturalist. For the past three years he’s made the trip to the U.S. with his coronet to volunteer at a Salvation Army kettle, playing in six-hour shifts. “It’s the musicians who bring in the most money,” he said with a grin.
