Later that evening, we were surprised to discover that same box turtle from the morning making a nest in our yard and laying eggs. Over several hours she laid four eggs but by morning the nest was filled in and covered back over and the turtle had left. Box turtle eggs have an approximately 70-day gestation period so we'll be looking to have some box turtle hatchlings by mid August.
