Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department responded to 120,433 incidents in 2022, many with off-gassing of PFAS or polyfluoroalkyl substances and other substances classified by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) of the World Health Organization as known or probable human carcinogens.
