Members of Challenge Girls Club and American Heritage Girls Scouting Program are teaming up to host a yard sale Oct. 21 and 22. All proceeds will benefit needy people whose lives were devastated by Hurricane Katrina in Slidell, La. The sale will offer a huge selection of children's clothing, toys, and equipment as well as household items and furniture. The sale begins Friday, Oct. 21, from 3:30-6 p.m. The sale will be open Saturday, Oct. 22, from 8 a.m.-noon; and takes place in Ashburn Farm, at 21291 Meadowsweet Court. One weekend a month, local artists in all media will display and sell their original work in a gallery setting at the Train Station on North 21st St. one block north of Main Street. The Loudoun Museum will present its 14th annual spirited walking tours of haunted sites in downtown Leesburg on Friday, Oct. 28 and Saturday, Oct. 29.

Hauntings 2005 tours will begin every 15 minutes from the Leesburg Town Hall, from 6-10 p.m. each evening. Ticket prices are $15 for adults and $13 for Loudoun Museum members. The tours are not recommended for children under 12 years of age.

This year, the museum has added an old-fashioned Halloween party for families to the Hauntings fun. The 19th century restored Aldie Mill, located on Route 50 in Aldie will be transformed Saturday, Oct. 22 so partygoers of all ages can play traditional games, dance to classic rock and rhythm and blues by Gary Smallwood and friends, enjoy a country dinner, hear ghost stories and enter a costume contest. Costumes are encouraged at this not-so-scary Halloween party.

The new edition of "Inside Loudoun County" features segments with Beverly Samuel of the Family and Consumer Sciences division of the Loudoun Extension Office, and Karen Velez, Community Holiday Coalition coordinator for the Loudoun County Department of Social Services.

"Inside Loudoun County" is a 30-minute cable television program airing Mondays and Fridays, at 7 and 9 p.m., on Adelphia's Government Access Channel 2. The show is hosted by Nancy McCormick of the Loudoun County Office of Public Information and is produced by Adelphia.

Temple Hall Farm Regional Park will bring the ball field to the cornfield when the all-new, 11-acre cornfield "Baseball Is Back" MAiZE appears for the 2005 fall season through Oct. 30.

Visitors will follow the baseball-themed design along twists and turns through the rows of corn. Hay rides, farm visits and a tot-sized, hay-bale mini-maze will welcome all ages.

The Loudoun County Art Advisory Committee presents an exhibition of work by five area artists on display on the first floor of the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison St., S.E. in Leesburg, through Nov. 1.

Loudoun artists Octavia Frazier, Ann Noel, Elaine Nunnally, Edith Symes and Harold Symes were selected for the exhibition, which includes 14 paintings in oil, watercolor and acrylic in a range of styles and subject matter.

The exhibit was arranged by the county's Art Advisory Committee, members of which are appointed by the Board of Supervisors. The committee is responsible for exhibiting the permanent collection of Loudoun artists, handling portraits in the Loudoun County Courthouse, and arranging for the conservation and care of the collection.

The George Washington University Virginia Campus hosts the Second Annual Teacher Art Show featuring more than 50 two- and three-dimensional, mixed-media artwork by art teachers from Loudoun County Public Schools. Named for Viola Townsend Winmill of Warrenton, the museum includes carriages she collected during her lifetime. On the personalized, guided tour, see a wide variety of antique horse-drawn vehicles from the mid-1800s and the early 1900s featured in the collection. Included in the exhibit are a Hansom Cab, a miniature coach belonging to Tom Thumb of Barnum & Bailey Circus, a 19th century hearse, a Silsby Steam Pumper and many others.

Morven Park, the historic home of Virginia Gov. Westmoreland Davis, located in Leesburg, is a 1,000-acre estate offering visitors a glimpse into Virginia country life during the early years of the 20th century is open to the public April-November, Fridays-Mondays and other times by appointment. Tours are offered at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. The park closes at 6 p.m. Admission is $7 for adults, $6 for seniors and $1 for children. Oatlands' Christmas 2005 celebration will highlight the 60th anniversary of the Allies' victory in WWII and commemorate the philanthropic lives of Mr. and Mrs. William Corcoran Eustis, who owned Oatlands throughout most of the 20th century. Oatlands will also pay tribute to their heroic son, 1st Lt. Morton C. Eustis of General Patton's armored tank division who was mortally wounded while in combat in France in 1944. Features music from the big-band era and interpretative guides in period costumes, including some U.S. military uniforms from WWII. Through Dec. 1, the Loudoun Museum will host a special exhibition entitled, The Fighting Ended Many Years Ago: Loudoun County in World War II. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, this small exhibition will reflect the many contributions Loudoun County made to the war effort. Artifacts from the museumÕs collection include uniforms, medals, period magazines and ration booklets. The centerpiece of the exhibition is the brass plaque from the U.S.S. Alabama sunk by army aircraft under the command of Gen. Billy Mitchell of Middleburg.

Visitors will learn that no conflict in American history changed the people and landscape of Loudoun County more than World War II. ÒHorsing Around Loudoun,Ó sponsored by the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce, will run from until mid-spring, late March or early April 2006. This extended display period is longer than the original three months planned for summer 2005, giving the public a greater opportunity to enjoy the whimsical art.

ÒHorsing Around LoudounÓ is a countywide, outdoor arts project to celebrate Loudoun and its long-standing equine tradition. Local artists transformed 25, life-size equine fiberglass sculptures into works of art, which will be placed at public locations around the county in October and remain on display for about six months. The Loudoun County Surplus Store is open on the first and third Wednesday and Friday, and the last Saturday of each month, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The store features an inventory of computer equipment, books, typical office items, surplus items from the Loudoun County and Leesburg government offices, and unclaimed items confiscated by the Sheriff's Office. Prices at the store range from $15 to $90 for bicycles, $15 to $40 for computer monitors, $10 to $40 for desks, $3 for keyboards, and $2 for chairs.

Historic Plantation. Oatlands, a 330-acre co-stewardship property of the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is located six miles south of Leesburg on Route 15.
