West Springfield and Bryn Renner have reeled together four straight wins over Northern Region teams, including a 4-0 victory at T.C. Williams on Tuesday.

Perhaps Tuesday’s postponement was a good thing for the Lake Braddock girls soccer team. They stood in the way of West Springfield, who has decimated its last two opponents before the weather forecast again wreaked havoc with the schedule.

On March 31 and again on April 4, the Spartans had a very different story — both 6-0 victories of Washington-Lee and West Potomac.

West Springfield’s lightening quick junior forward Amalya Clayton netted a hat trick in an eight-minute span during the victory over the Wolverines. West Potomac had just reeled off a 2-0 victory over its archrival Mount Vernon, but the Wolverines — led by senior midfielder Jamie Coder — were no match for the speedy Spartans.

West Springfield out-shot West Potomac, 16-1, and Spartan junior goalie Beth Anne Nowak helped keep their third straight opponent scoreless. For the season, West Springfield has outscored its opponents 18-3.

The Spartans will host Lee on April 10. The Lancers, however, may pose the biggest threat within the Patriot District.

Lee has only relinquished three goals all season, and recorded a 13-0 embarrassment of Wakefield on March 25. Led by tri-captains Courtney McKay, Brittany Gropp and Tina Brehm, Lee has ripped through its early season schedule.

In addition to the double-digit over struggling Wakefield, the Lancers have tallied victories over Jefferson, Stuart, Edison and most recently T.C. Williams on Tuesday. Lee, coached by Brent Leiba, has outscored their opponents by a 27-3 margin.

Heading into a Wednesday match-up with Lee, the WEST SPRINGFIELD BASEBALL has notched four straight victories over Northern Region opponents. Behind junior ace Mike Kent, the Spartans have pieced together wins over Robinson, West Potomac, Lake Braddock and T.C. Williams on Tuesday.

During the stretch, West Springfield has generated at least four runs per game, while only giving up more than four runs once. The pitching staff blanked T.C. Williams, who were coming off back-to-back wins during the 4-0 victory.

After Lee, the Spartans will host Hayfield on Friday before a much-anticipated showdown with South County on April 15.
