The finish line of the Round Hill 5K over Memorial Day weekend signified the end to quite a journey for 72-year-old Ashburn resident Patricia Lund. The only person over the age of 70 to enter the race, Lund completed the 3.1-mile course in just over 47 minutes alongside her daughter and grandson. In 2007, Lund’s doctor recommended she lose 65 pounds for her health, so she began walking three miles a day. Now 62 pounds lighter, Lund added workouts in the Ashby Ponds’ retirement community’s exercise facility and 40 minutes of lap swimming in hopes of being able to complete a 5K.
"Having never run in a race like this before, there was something exhilarating about it,” said Lund.
