Herndon High School hosts 14th annual StompFest.

Fresh off a season in which they won the national championship, the Herndon High School Step Team kicked off their season by hosting the 14th annual StompFest Saturday at Herndon High. The event featured nine local teams competing for first place.

Langley Leads Recycling Efforts

School will serve as pilot program for athletic field recycling.

Langley High School will serve as a pilot program for Fairfax County when it comes to recycling on the athletic fields during sporting events. The Langley Eco School club is spearheading the initiative, collecting grant money to purchase the recycling cans to be placed next to the regular trash cans.

The Langley School Presents ‘The Phantom Tollbooth’

This spring, students at The Langley School will bring a new genre of theatre to the Langley stage – the first-ever Middle School musical. "The Phantom Tollbooth" will run Thursday, March 8 through Saturday, March 10.

Oakcrest School, an independent school for girls grades 6-12 in McLean, is showcasing its Upper School Show, Seussical, the Musical, in the G. Lloyd Bunting, Sr. Theatre at Oakcrest on Friday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, March 3, at 11 a.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Birth of the Blues

ASF, Hammond students team up to build guitars.

Twelve Hammond Middle School students stood before their teachers, classmates, School Board members and administrators Feb. 1 as they gave a musical performance using their own hand-crafted cigar box guitars. As a result of an after-school program sponsored by Alexandria City Public Schools and the Alexandria Court Services Unit, several middle school youth proudly displayed the culmination of four months of work building their instruments.

Washington Episcopal Earns First in Robotics Competition

Washington Episcopal School’s robotics team, the "Dragonbots," won first place in the presentation category for a creative, imaginative, well-documented, and demonstrated research project at the International First LEGO League state-wide competition at UMBC Retriever Activities Center in Catonsville, Md. on Jan. 28. Seventy-four teams competed. The FLL organized the competition, which hosts around 20,000 teams in over 60 countries.
