Visitors to the Reston Library may have noticed the exterior looking a bit neater since Wednesday, March 7, thanks to the efforts of the Reston Garden Club in partnership with Hidden Lane Landscaping. Members of the club spent the day clearing brush, shrubs and dead grass, while maintaining beds and laying down mulch.

Rams Reach .500 Mark in Baseball
Robinson gets Concorde wins over Oakton and Westfield.
The Robinson Secondary baseball team reached the .500 record mark this past Tuesday night, April 17 when the Rams defeated host Oakton, 6-4, in a Concorde District game played in the Vienna area. It was the second district win in a row for Robinson, which had also won a road game at Westfield High, 3-1, last Friday night, April 13.

It's been more than a quarter of a century since Irishman Brian Keenan, Englishman John McCarthy and American Terry Anderson were taken hostage in Beirut and held in a series of desolate cells throughout the city. Keenan was released after more than four years in captivity and went on to pen “An Evil Cradling,” a chilling account of his experience.

There are more than 100 cats and kittens currently at the Animal Welfare League of Arlington or in foster care and approximately 200 more are expected to arrive throughout the summer. The adult cat adoption fee is normally $100, but AWLA is extending a special promotion through the end of August — “Three Name Your Fee.” Folks who adopt cats 3 years old and over not only can name their price, but their adoption fee will also include: a certificate for a free exam with a participating veterinarian, spay or neuter surgery, a feline leukemia and feline AIDS test, a distemper vaccination, a personalized I.D. tag, a microchip, an information packet and an emergency sticker.

National Men’s Chorus Presents Veterans Day Concert
National Men’s Chorus will begin its 14th season with a concert of music appropriate for Veterans Day on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 7:30 p.m. at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 1301 Collingwood Road in Alexandria. This is the first time the Chorus has performed a full concert in the Mount Vernon area. The program will be conducted by Founder and Artistic Director, Thomas Beveridge, and will feature the renowned pianist, Thomas Pandolfi. The Chorus will perform a selection of American patriotic music, including The Star Spangled Banner, with a rarely heard verse by Oliver Wendell Holmes and a new verse by Jay Kelly Wright; Songs of the American Wars, including Chester, Tenting Tonight, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, Ballad of the Green Berets, and A Sentry’s Prayer by Fred Gray, written to honor his son fighting in Afghanistan.
