The film, "The Rendezvous" is a 12-minute thriller written and directed by Potomac filmmaker Stephen Smith and produced by his partner and wife Janine Shore. The film centers on a beautiful woman who convinces her greed-driven lover to engage in a risky plan, which involves stealing an extremely valuable object from her husband, selling the object from the highest bidder, and running off to live the good life. The filmmakers hosted a screening of the film at the AFI Theater in Silver Spring, on April 20.

Credit Union Participates in Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run

On Sunday, April 7, CommonWealth One Federal Credit Union, headquartered in Alexandria, was an event sponsor for the seventh consecutive year for the 41st Credit Union Cherry Blossom Ten Mile Run. The credit union provided volunteers, runners, and walkers from its membership and staff.

$1,700 Aids Boys & Girls Clubs

Occasionally Cake of Alexandria donated $1,700 to the Dunbar Alexandria-Olympic Branch of Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, collected during its grand opening ceremony. Korean-Language Students Translate City Brochure

Nine students from the Fairfax Academy’s Korean 4 class have translated the City of Fairfax Commission for Women’s brochure into Korean. Guided by their teacher, Song Johnston, they spent five weeks translating, proofreading and revising the document. This brochure may now be used by the City to help Korean speakers when they visit the area. This is the second time the Korean 4 class has taken on such a project. Three years ago, the students translated information from the Historic Blenheim Civil War Interpretive Center into Korean and made a photo book from it, using pictures they personally took at the center. They then donated the book to the City of Fairfax.

Reston and Sterling Lions Clubs Provide Eye Screening

The Reston and the Sterling Lions Clubs maintained a booth to provide PediaVision screening of eyes of children, 6 months to 19 years old, at the Healthy Kids Day on Saturday, April 26, held at the YMCA, 12196 Sunset Hills Road in Reston. PediaVision is a non-invasive procedure that takes only a few seconds to complete and detects the potential presence of problems such as nearsightedness and eye misalignment. Results are provided to parents to determine if follow-up vision care is needed. On Saturday, 40 children were screened. Results were provided to the parents of eight children to determine if additional care is needed.
