New Elementary and High School Proposed for This Part of County

The recently passed Virginia transportation funding bill HB 2313 is not favorable to northern Virginia. It eliminates cents per gallon tax at the pump that is estimated to generate $4.5 billion during the 5 years ending 2018 and imposes new taxes that generate an estimated $5.9 billion during the same period.

In my previous letter, in response to H. Jay Spiegel’s commentary on Del. Scott Surovell’s voting record during this year’s legislative session, I asked how Mr. Spiegel could “suggest that any of Del. Surovell’s positions rise to anywhere near the level of ‘government intrusion in our lives’ represented by the infamous ‘personhood’ and ‘trans-vaginal ultrasound’ bills.”

94 Gold, 68 Silver, 41 Bronze.
In the recently concluded Northern Virginia Senior Olympics several long standing records were broken. Participation was the highest in its 30-year history and the highest number of events — 40 — were offered. It was also a bonus year for Arlington which celebrated a 20 percent increase in participation and the largest number of medals awarded. The total medal count was 94 Gold, 68 Silver and 41 Bronze.

IPAR Recognized by County Arts Council
Arts Impact Award given for IPAR's public art outreach.
The Initiative for Public Art-Reston was recognized by the Arts Council of Fairfax County Friday, Oct. 12 with the Arts Impact Award for their commission and placement of art in public places around the community. Founded in 2007 by local civic organizations and residents, the group created a Public Art Master Plan in 2008 to guide the future of public art.
