South Lakes Student Honored for Writing
A South Lakes High freshman was among those honored Sunday, Sept. 8, for their entries in a Grandparents Day writing contest. She is Anusha Rahman and she received an honorable mention for “The Journey to My Grandparents.”
Fairfax Assists in Murder Investigation
On July 14, 1996, Thelma Scroggins was found dead in her home on Batna Road in Lignum (Culpeper County), Virginia. Scroggins was shot multiple times and died as a result of her injuries. Raymond Morrogh, the Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney, has been appointed as a special prosecutor in the case. The Fairfax County Commonwealth Attorney’s Office along with the assistance of the Fairfax County Police Department is currently investigating the death of Scroggins.
Best Buddies Fundraiser Is Big Success
Chantilly’s Eric Latcheran and Centreville’s Kevin Whalen are both participating Oct. 20 in the annual Best Buddies Challenge in Washington, D.C. Event proceeds directly benefit local schools — including Centreville, Chantilly and Westfield high schools — containing Best Buddies chapters.

Work Beginning on Ashby Pond Trail
It’s full speed ahead for the construction of the Ashby Pond Park Trail. Work was set to begin Monday, March 3, with construction expected to last approximately 90 days, until May 31. The park will be closed during construction and, weather permitting, should be open again in June.
