‘Little Shop of Horrors’ at West Potomac High in Mount Vernon
The final performances of West Potomac High School’s “Little Shop of Horrors” took place Nov. 13, 14 and 15 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 15 at 2 p.m. The cast included Sarah Lore, Aubrey Blount, David Jarzen, ,JP Havranek, Austin Harlow, and Nikki Amico.

Turf Fields Begin
West Potomac High School started construction on its long-awaited turf fields on Monday, June 2. When completed in August, the school will have synthetic turf on the stadium field, and on a new practice field with lights. These fields will be used for WPHS athletics as well as permitted by Fairfax County for community use.
McLean Galaxy Wins Premier Tournament
McLean Galaxy Green U11 Boys Soccer Team were champions of the McLean Premier Soccer Tournament U11 National Division, defeating two local Division 1 teams, including Herndon and Chantilly. All four of the games in McLean were played in a wintry mix of freezing precipitation in the last weekend of March, with a mix of hail and snow falling during the finals. It was so cold and slippery that the game was called at the half with Mclean ahead 2-1 over Chantilly, and trophies and a team photo were delayed to one week later. McLean Galaxy Green players reside in McLean, Vienna and Great Falls. The team is coached by Yuri Bogdanov.
Youth Hockey Team Earns Bronze
The Northern Virginia Hockey Club’s U16 AA team, based out of the Mt. Vernon Rec Center, captured the Bronze medal at the 2014 USA Hockey National Championships which were held April 2-6 in Ashburn, making history for the local club. This U16 team, coached by Bill Butler and Doug Scott, is the first NVHC team to ever qualify for and compete in the USA Hockey National Championships.

Reston: ‘Blessed to Be a Part of It’
546 students graduated from South Lakes High School on Thursday, June 18.
English teacher Valerie Padgett sometimes consulted an urban dictionary to understand her South Lakes High School students. “You all made me laugh,” she said. “I have been blessed to be a part of it.” The senior class chose her to be the faculty member to give the commencement address at their once-in-a-lifetime commencement ceremony.
