The Charge Ahead '06 Team at Chantilly High School, comprised of faculty, staff, SGA officers, and Charge Ahead alumni, is offering rising freshmen the opportunity to become acquainted with Chantilly High. Sign up for the week of Aug. 12-16, which includes a tour of the school and grounds, a motivational speaker, future school activities and programs, a technology seminar, an ice cream party, a study/writing/research skills seminar, "meet your subschool day," and more.

Registration forms are available in the main office. Completed forms with $120 fee can be turned in during office hours or mailed to the school. Call 703-222-8100.

The Deer Park Elementary PTA will hold the first meeting of the new school year on Tuesday, Aug. 13, at 7 p.m. in the Deer Park Library. This is a general meeting and all are welcomed to attend. Topics of discussion will include the projected budget and the new school year.

Liberty Middle School will hold an orientation, Friday, Aug. 30. Seventh-graders will attend from 9-11 a.m., and eighth-graders will attend from 1-3 p.m. Then, from 5-8 p.m., parents and students are all invited to a back-to-school fair on the school grounds. Principal Audra Sydnor and other staff members will be on hand, and families will be able to tour the new school.

Students who've completed all their paperwork will receive locker assignments. Gym uniforms, lunch cards, spirit wear, PTA memberships and yearbooks will be available for purchase. Families may also sign up to receive important school information and the electronic newsletter, and they may also reactivate their Giant cards for the new school year. Pleasant Valley Preschool, a nonprofit, cooperative preschool, has openings for the 2002-2003 school year. Call the membership chairman at 703-803-4960 or the school at 703-378-6911.

Centreville Preschool Inc., a nonprofit co-op preschool, has a limited number of slots available for 3- to 4-year-olds in its afternoon programs beginning in September. CPI is located at 13916 Braddock Road. Call CPI at (703) 830-5656.

<lst>Registration for Grades K-6 continues at Cub Run Elementary School, Monday-Friday, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Parents and students are invited to locate classrooms and meet teachers at Cub Run's Open House on Thursday, Aug. 29 from 6-7 p.m. In addition, a paid position is available for a cafeteria host/hostess. Brookfield Elementary will pilot two full-day kindergarten classes for the 2002-2003 school year. It will also have three half-day kindergarten classes. Parents will be notified of the opportunity to have their children in the full-day program. From the pool of those interested, there will be a lottery to select the students who will be in the full-day kindergarten program. The classes will be balanced to include ESOL and non-ESOL students.
