Man Charged with Endangering a Child

August 29, 2002

A Mount Vernon man has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child and recklessly endangering another person at a campground in Fayette County, Pa.

Brandon Thompson Sr., 58, of Patton Boulevard in the Woodlawn area, was arraigned in a Pennsylvania court on Monday, Aug. 26. Thompson allegedly took his 7-year-old son to a campground in Saltlick Township at around 9 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25. He allegedly left the child, saying that the boy was being punished for not “keeping up with his homework.”

Thompson allegedly told the child that he would be back the following morning and began driving away. The child ran after the vehicle, holding onto the door handle. Thompson told him to “get off” and attempted to drive away.

Pennsylvania State Police said that another adult intervened, police were called, and Thompson was arrested. He was released on $10,000 bond, and a preliminary hearing has been set for Sept. 3.
