Family Still Displaced After Last Month's Fire

Dress clothes and a reasonably priced place to live.

This is what the Richardson family is looking for. More than a month after a fire destroyed their home and all their possessions, they are still not settled.

"We are looking for a place that we can afford. We would like to stay in the area because we love the schools and our kids are active in sports," said Rob Richardson. "But if it comes to the point that we have to leave, we will."

In the meantime, the family is scattered about, staying with different friends. "We really want a place to live, there's nothing like having something of your own."

The Red Cross helped them early on, offering them housing for the first two weeks, but they were never turned over to another agency to help. So far, the places that have been available for rent have been out of the Richardson's price range.

Rob Richardson is thankful for all the help that they have received so far — people sent money and clothes — but they're still in need of so much more. With no renter's insurance to cover their losses, they have to replace everything from their pocket, including a computer, furniture, household items, books, toys and linens.

People have offered to donate furniture and household items, but unless somebody offers to donate a temporary storage space, they can't accept anything other than money until they have a permanent space.

"I'm used to helping other people out. Now I'm in need," said Richardson.
