Fairfax County Taxes

The Fairfax County Department of Tax Administration handles tax service for the county. The DTA is located in Suite 223 of the Government Center on 12000 Government Center Parkway.

Residents can pay their taxes in person at the tax office or over the phone with a credit card by calling 888-2PAYTAX.

At the department you can do the following:

* Pay real-estate tax. The real estate tax rate is $1.21 per $100 of assessed value. This tax is due semiannually on July 28 and Dec. 5. Real-estate assessments may also be accessed online through the tax office's website at www.co.fairfax.va.us/dta

* File for personal property tax. The personal property tax rate is $4.57 per $100 of assessed value as of Jan.1. Bills will be sent out during the summer and must be paid by Oct. 5. Personal property assessments may be accessed through the tax office's website at. www.fairfaxcounty.gov/living/taxes/default.htm.

* Purchase automobile stickers. Personal property tax on vehicles bought or located in the county during or after July is due on Feb. 15 of the following year.

* Apply for tax relief for senior citizens and disabled people.

* Pick up state-income tax returns.
