Navy Ensign Brian S. Mello of Newport, R.I. and Oakton recently departed on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the guided missile destroyer USS Barry, home ported in Norfolk, Va. Mello is one of more than 10,000 Atlantic Fleet Sailors and Marines aboard the ships of the USS George Washington Carrier Battle Group and USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group ready to participate in Operation Enduring Freedom.
Navy Midshipman Justin W. Freeh finished six weeks of U.S. Naval Academy Indoctrination (Plebe Summer) in Annapolis, Maryland He graduated from Langely High School in McLean in 2002. The training is the start of four years of training to become a naval or Marine Corps officer.
