Special Election Primaries for 37th Seat

Since Sen. Warren E. Barry (R-37th) chose to resign from his seat in the state legislature, a special election will be held to fill it. Democrats Jim Mitchell and Cathy Belter, and Republicans Ken Cuccinelli and Mike Thompson, are all vying for his job.

Each party will hold a primary, next week, to select a candidate. The Republican primary will be Thursday, June 27, from 4-9 p.m., in the Braddock District, at Robinson Secondary School. The Democratic primary will be Saturday, June 29, from noon-5 p.m. at three sites: Stone Middle School in the Sully District; Fairview Elementary, Braddock District; and White Oaks Elementary, Springfield District.

As long as Democratic voters only cast their ballots once, they may vote at any of their polling places and their votes will be counted. The winners of the two primaries will then face off in a special election on Tuesday, Aug. 6.
