Price Named to Academic Team
<bt>Gregory Price, a senior at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology (TJHSST) near Annandale, has been named to the 2002 All-USA High School Academic Team, sponsored by USA Today. Price is one of 20 high-school students named to the All-USA first team. He will receive a $2,500 cash award.
Price was also named the country's top male Advanced Placement (AP) student for earning the highest scores on the most AP exams.
He was a silver medalist at the International Physics Olympiad for developing an algorithm allowing Naval Research Laboratory scientists to use supercomputers more efficiently to solve fluid dynamics problems. He attended the 2000 International Olympiad in Informatics in Beijing as the U.S. representative and was a two-time top-12 scorer at the USA Mathematics Olympiad.
He was the first-place finisher on the National Spanish Exam. Price co-founded the Jefferson Physics Team, served as the Math Team leader and was captain of the national champion Science Bowl Team.
He will continue his education at Harvard University.
<sh>Students Honored
<bt>The ARC/Riggs Bank Educational Leadership Awards ceremony, to be held May 30 at Riggs Bank in McLean, will recognize the achievements of Fairfax County Public School educators who have made significant contributions to the education of children with disabilities. Their achievements range from utilizing picture symbols to help children with disabilities learn their daily routine, make choices and communicate needs, to working with the band teacher to write a rap for several students with disabilities to help them learn their multiplication tables. Several recipients are also receiving awards for their efforts to involve families in their children’s education by developing parent support groups, and meeting parents in their own neighborhood homes to explain their children’s education programs. Honorees include Jeffrey Barr, Lynn Baxa, Elaine Duffner, Sandra Cowan, Pat Hope, Mark Hyman, Teresa Johnson, Vincent Lynch, Denise Miller, Bonita Mitchell, Kathy Mullenix, Donna Pasteur, Bhumika Patel, Liz Scott, Jane Stockdale, Jan Thibodeau, Brian Tickle, Suzanne Tsonos and Karen Wiltraut.

<bt>The Fairfax County School Board is expected to act on the following items at its next regular School Board meeting, Thursday, June 6, 7:30 p.m., at Jackson Middle School, 3020 Gallows Road, Falls Church.
* Approve a telecommunications leasing master agreement with Smartpole Inc.;
* Approve the 2002-03 annual special-education plan, Part B funding application and Section 619 Preschool Grant application;
* Award the contract for network infrastructure upgrades at Robinson Secondary in Fairfax; and
* Award the contract for power distribution upgrades at Key Middle in Springfield and Sandburg Middle in Mount Vernon, and Edison High in Alexandria and South Lakes High in Reston.
