<sh>Fire Destroys Franconia Home

<bt>Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department units responded to a house fire in the Franconia area at approximately 10 a.m., Monday, Nov. 4. The single-family, brick rambler is located at 4413 Roundhill Road in the Rose Hill area of Franconia. First arriving units encountered heavy smoke from several sides of the home and basement. Firefighters brought the fire under control in approximately 25 minutes, said county sources. The occupants, two adolescents and two dogs, escaped without injury. One firefighter was transported to Inova Healthplex in Springfield for a minor injury. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced family of four. Damages are estimated at $300,000 and the fire is under investigation.

<sh>Fatal Hunting Accident

<bt>Gerald C. Lemaster, a Master Deputy Sheriff with the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office, died Monday, Nov. 4, from an apparent gunshot while hunting, according to the Fairfax County Sheriff's Office. An investigation is ongoing but preliminary indications suggest that Lemaster succumbed to a fatal gunshot while hunting. Foul play is not suspected at this time. Lemaster, a 35-year-old Fairfax County employee, worked with the Sheriff's office for more than 15 years. He was also a retired sergeant with the Fairfax County Police Department, where he worked for more than 20 years. Lemaster is survived by his wife and one adult daughter.

<sh>League of Women Voters

<bt>The issues at stake in the forthcoming Virginia General Assembly session will be reviewed at the next meeting of the Fairfax Area League of Women Voters, Fairfax Station unit. It will be held Wednesday, Nov. 13, at 9:30 a.m.; guests are welcome.
