<cal2>“Summer’s Bounty,” featuring manipulated Polaroid images by photographer Jane Ernst and stained glass by Erwin Straubinger, both of Springfield, will continue through Oct. 7 at the Artists’ Undertaking Gallery, located at 309 Mill St. in Occoquan. Making Marriage Work: Preparing for Marriage is a nationally recognized program for Jewish or interfaith couples who are newly married, engaged or considering marriage, which takes place at the Jewish Social Service Agency. The program helps couples explore love and marriage, expectations, understanding each other, communication, conflict resolution and other issues. Volunteer Fairfax is holding orientations for interested adult volunteers who want to help out but need flexible scheduling. The Celebration Singers, an all-volunteer, 40-voice, three-part harmony choreographed and costumed women's show chorus, invite women interested in singing, including a potential backup pianist, to join them. A Ceili (Irish country dance) sponsored by the Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann (CCE) will be held on the second Saturday of every month (except July and August) at the John Wood Center, located at 3730 Old Lee Highway in Fairfax. The Springfield Chapter 893 of NARFE, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, holds a meeting the second Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. at St. John's United Methodist Church, 5312 Backlick Road, Springfield. The meetings include information on how to preserve economic security, the public's perception of federal workers, and how to strengthen political influence at both state and national levels. At the Oct. 9 Chapter meeting, a bipartisan panel of Virginia legislators will present their positions on local and state issues, such as the proposed elimination of the age deduction for state income tax purposes.

"Simple Gifts," featuring watercolor paintings by Fairfax Station artist Catherine Hillis, and porcelain by David Cowdrill of Great Falls will open Tuesday, Oct. 8, and continue through Monday, Nov. 4 at the Artists' Undertaking Gallery, 309 Mill St., Occoquan. Flea Market, co-sponsored by the Merrifield Lions Club and the Arlington-Fairfax Elks Lodge, takes place every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Elks Lodge, located at 8421 Arlington Blvd. (Route 50) in Fairfax. No rain dates. 175 vendor spaces are available on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations for vendors can be made by calling 703-560-3023. Charge for vendors is $15 per space. Food service will be provided by Elks Lodge.
