Junior Directs 'Serandon Park' High school

Junior Damon White is getting a rare opportunity, one that most theater artists don't get to try until college: directing his own play for a paying audience. Damon started work on the piece – titled "Serandon Park" – last year, and approached his drama teacher, Glen Hochkeppel, with the idea of producing it for the stage. Hochkeppel thought the idea had promise, and after the playwright committed to a few revisions, agreed to let White direct it for the Stone Bridge stage. "Serandon Park" tells a tale about a troubled woman, Lyris (played by senior Katie Howard), who resists the advice of her life-long friend Tabatha (Stone Bridge newcomer Rachel Parnell), instead walking a self-destructive path. The story is framed by Tabatha's repeated visits to her therapist (Jenn Wells), who tries to help Tabatha make sense of Lyris's behavior. Parents should be cautioned: the play deals with adult subject matter and situations, and would not be suitable for younger audience members. "Serandon Park" shares a double-bill with a light comedy by the author of "Noises Off," Michael Frayn, titled "Audience." Feel free to bring children to "Audience;" there will be an intermission, for those who would like to take their younger children home after the comedy. Curtain time is 7:30. Tickets are $5.
