Greenspring Village’s “English As a Second Language” program provides instruction to assist employees who want to improve their language skills. ESL classes meet twice a week. Volunteers who wish to enroll are asked to pay a $20 registration fee to be refunded after at the completion of the course. Follow-up ESL courses for students who wish to continue are now in the planning stage. <cal2>Lt. John Henderson teaches the City of Fairfax Fire Extinguisher Training program in room 8 at the John C. Wood Municipal Complex, 3730 Old Lee Highway in Fairfax. <cal2>Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program. The Franconia District Station of the Fairfax County Police Department will be offering Virginia residents 55 and older enrollment in the Mature Operator's Driver Improvement Program (MODIP). This eight hour class covers safe driving information for mature drivers. Upon completion of this course, drivers are eligible for the Virginia State mandated insurance premium reduction (check with individual insurance carriers for the amount). The classes meet the second Saturday of each month. The next MODIP class will take place at the Franconia District Station located at 6121 Franconia Road, on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Subsequent seminars are scheduled for Dec. 14, 2002 and Jan. 11, 2003.
