Italian Night. Slide Lecture. Fort Ward Museum & Historic Site, 4301 W. Tag Day. The Mount Vernon Marching Majors will be canvassing the surrounding high-school neighborhoods for their annual Tag day fund-raiser. Each year members of the band and guard, in full uniform, go into the community to ask for donations to help offset costs for the upcoming school year. Tag Day is a major community fund-raiser of the Marching Majors to help with their many incurred expenses. As a way of saying “thank you” to the community, the band will perform a special community performance on Sept. 17 at 8 p.m. at the school football field.

MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 9

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10

Commemoration Ceremony. The City of Alexandria will honor America's resilient spirit with a special ceremony commemorating the events of Sept. 11, 2001, from 6-7 p.m. The ceremony, which will be held in Alexandria's Market Square, is presented in cooperation with American Legion Post 24 and is open to the public. Program will include a keynote address by Gov. Mark Warner as well as special remarks by Sen. John Warner, Rep. James Moran and Mayor Kerry Donley. Commemoration Concert. George Washington's Mount Vernon commemorates the first anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon and New York City with a patriotic community concert performed by the Harmony Heritage Singers at 11:30 a.m. in the Robert H. and Clarice Smith Auditorium adjacent to the Shops at Mount Vernon. Family Dig Days 2002. Children of all ages are welcome to join archeologists screen excavated soil in a special archeological investigation. Old Town Theater. The newly restored Old Town Theater, 815 1/2 King St., is presenting "Crazy Love," a musical comedy written, directed and produced by veterans of The Improv Comedy Club.
