Roni Campbell of Blooms, a Reston-based florist, was recently named as Designer of the Year for the State of Virginia. Campbell received the honor at the July 22 Virginia Professional Association Conference in Charlotte, N.C., where 20 florists from the Commonwealth displayed their designing talents. Campbell works at Blooms' Design Center in Sterling.

Joseph Kromholz of Reston participated in Boston University Tanglewood Institute's summer program of musical study and performance. A sophomore at South Lakes High School, Kromholz has studied violin for 11 years. He is the son of Alfred and Yonna Kromholz of Reston.

Susan B. Glass has been appointed to the newly created position of management/program analyst for the Town of Herndon's Information Services Department. Glass has extensive experience in developing business processes, products, systems and organizational infrastructures. She was the director at the National Humane Education Society in Leesburg and served as a senior program manager at XO Communications in Reston. Glass also served as senior marketing support manager at MCI WorldCom in McLean.

Mike Mueller has been promoted to golf course superintendent at Herndon Centennial Golf Course. From 1998 to the present, Mueller was the assistant golf course superintendent. Before that, he was the superintendent at Montgomery golf Recreation Club in Montgomery, Minn. for nine years.

The Reverend Doctor M. Bruce Irwin will join the ministerial team of The United Christian Parish of Reston as of Sept. 8. Irwin will be a co-pastor on the team joining Rev. Suzanne P.M. Rudiselle, co-pastor and Billie P. Sutter, director of Christian Education. Irwin was ordained as a minister in the United Church of Christ in 1970 and most recently served the Second Congregational United Church of Christ in Grand Rapids, Mich. as its senior minister. Before that, he served a large congregation in the Miami, Fla. area and two other congregations in Pennsylvania.

John D. Lane, III has graduated from the Army ROTC National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. Lane is the son of John D. and Katy H. Lane of Third Street in Herndon. Lane is a 1999 graduate of Herndon High School.
