<cal2>Scholarship Redskins Raffle Reception to honor Washington Redskins greats Charlie Taylor and Rick "Doc" Walker for their contribution to youth community service programs. 3-6 p.m. at the Reston Community Center, Lake Anne. The winner will receive two season tickets for all eight of the 2002-03 regular season home games of the Washington Redskins. The raffle is sponsored by the Reston Optimist Club and Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The National Capital Chapter of the American Red Cross will offer CPR and first aid classes in North Fairfax at 1112 Herndon Parkway, Herndon, VA. The course will include instruction on how to recognize and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, how to perform rescue breathing and cardiopulmonary resuscitation, how to assist choking victims, and how to care for life-threatening bleeding, sudden illness, and injuries. <cal2>The League of Women Voters invites Reston/Herndon area members and guests to attend its kick off meeting for the 2002-03 program year on either Wednesday, Sept. 11 at 7:30 p.m. or Thursday, Sept. 12 at 9:30 a.m. Both meetings will take place at the Reston Museum on Lake Anne's Washington Plaza. Guests and new members are invited to attend the meeting, which will provide an introduction to the League and its activities. <cal2>Provide A Helping Hand for the Reston community by joining the Reston Community Center from 7-8:30 p.m. for the annual Volunteria, "Providing A Helping Hand." Area non-profit organizations will recruit volunteers to work in the community. Volunteria will take place at the RCC at Lake Anne, Unit 1609-A, Washington Plaza, Reston, Virginia. Anyone age 12 and older will be eligible to volunteer. Organizations in attendance include: Reston Community Center, Reston Association, RCC Senior Academy, Multicultural Festival Planning Committee, Reston Regional Library, Friends of the Reston Community Center, Girl Scouts of America, Guiding Eyes for the Blind, The American Cancer Society, The Reston Teen Center, The Volunteer Center of Fairfax County, Arts Alliance of Reston, Reston Interfaith and Fairfax County Department of Family Services.

<cal2>16th Annual Kid's Pet Parade hosted by the Town of Herndon Department of Parks and Recreation. 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Herndon Town Green behind the Herndon Municipal Center. Participants and pets will be judged in the following categories: Best Costume, Best Float, Best Trick, Largest (nose to tail), Smallest (nose to tail), Most Unusual and Best of Show. Concert-Dance fund-raiser. Doors at the Herndon Community Center will open at 7:30 p.m. and singer Katy Benko and the band will take the stage 8-11 p.m. Tickets: $20. Emilie Richards, author of "Prospect Street," will give a talk about getting published which will focus on the wisdom on following guidelines to the letter, analyzing markets and submitting to multiple critique sessions. The Washington Romance Writers will have a 10 a.m. "meet and greet session", which will be followed at 10:30 a.m. by a short business meeting.
