The first day of school went smoothly for the 166,000 students in the Fairfax County Public School system according to parents, teachers, students and school officials.
Busses were on the roads throughout the county as early as 6 a.m. Tuesday. The area’s largest public school system expected as many as 2,500 new students, not all kindergarteners. Trailers will be required to accommodate this growth at many of the area’s schools.
By the end of the day, students left school, glad to have renewed friendships and ready to begin the new year.
