Kane’s Home Vandalized

Officers from the 1st District are inves-

tigating the residential burglary and

vandalism of vehicles and campaign

materials belonging to Mary Kane, Republican State Delegate candidate for District 15 in Montgomery County.

Police gave the following account:

An unknown suspect or suspects gained entry to her garage Friday evening, sometime between 7:15 and 8:15 p.m., through the open garage door at her residence in the 10900 block of Martingale Court in Potomac.

Numerous campaign signs and posters were ransacked. Banners and flags that had previously hung on a trailer in the driveway were torn down. The candidate and her husband discovered this damage upon returning home a little before midnight.

Saturday morning at approximately 6:45 a.m., it was discovered that two vehicles at the residence had been vandalized sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning. A 2002 Chevy was damaged by “keying,” running a key across the finish of a vehicle, to spell out the word, “stop.” A 1999 BMW was “keyed” with “Stop the Campaign.”

No items were stolen from the residence or either vehicle. A short distance from the residence, in the commercial parking lot at 10154 River Road, a 2001 truck with a large picture of Mary Kane on it was vandalized with blue magic marker. A large sign for Mary Kane on a fence in the 9400 block of River Road was pulled down.

“Taking down a lawn sign is one thing,” said Kane, in a written statement. “Coming on to my property and striking fear in the hearts of my children, that’s another. I never would have thought that this could happen in Montgomery County. It’s sad.”

The investigation is continuing by the 1st District Investigative Section. Anyone with information about this vandalism is asked to call 301-279-1602, or the police non-emergency number at 301-279-8000.
