Bringing the Garden Inside

Peggy Burley loved to garden. When an illness prevented her from going outside to garden, her sister, Terri Burley, brought the garden inside to her.

Terri’s birthday gift to Peggy was a miniature garden, built in a large glass case. It was so special that Mary Ann Burley, a volunteer at Sherwood Hall Library, suggested that they display the garden at the library for awhile.

Perched atop one of the shelves in the children’s area near the main entrance, it is there for all to see. Mary Ann said that three little girls, who come in frequently, were fascinated by it, and said, “Every time we come in, we see something different.”

It’s true that the detail is such that it’s hard to take it all in at one viewing. One might miss the goldfish pond with the turtle on the side; the replica of Peggy sitting on the swing with her Bichon beneath; the birthday cake and tea set; the red bird in the tree; or the squirrel and butterfly on the arbor.

Look closely and you can see a potting stand with tiny flowerpots, gloves, apron, baskets and garden tools.

This garden was truly a work of love; how nice that the Burleys have chosen to share it with the community.
