"Transforming Conformity" is the theme at Wellspring Church on Sunday, Sept. 29, with a talk on the power of Christ to enlarge the community of kindness and compassion. Pastor Richard Thayer will preach at the worship service, beginning at 10 a.m. at Centreville Fire Station No. 17, on Old Centreville Road. Sunday School classes for children meet during worship, and service is followed by fellowship hour with bagels.

The Youth Department of the Jubilee Christian Center is hosting a Youth Jam on Friday, Sept. 27 from 7-11 p.m, for 7th-12th graders. There will be basketball, volleyball, video and other games. There is no charge for the games and activities; there is a charge for the food. Call 703-383-1170.

Who is God ... really? Misconceptions about God's real identity may contribute more toward emotional and psychological pain than any other factor in many people's lives. Join the Cedar Run Community Church for a six-week series on Sundays entitled "Will the Real God Please Stand Up?" now through Nov. 3.

Cedar Run is a non-denominational, Christian church currently meeting at Waples Mill Elementary off Route 50 in the Fair Oaks area. It provides a high-quality, secure, and fun Promiseland children's ministry for ages newborn through sixth grade. Michael Morwood, author of "Tomorrow's Catholic" and "Is Jesus God?," is coming to Clifton on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28.

He will present two day-long (10 a.m. and 3 p.m.) workshops: Friday, Sept. 27 will be on "Re-Shaping the Christian Imagination" (reconciling our contemporary world view with the treasures of Jesus' message and life), and Saturday, Sept. 28 will be on "What if God is Not Listening?" (creating a prayer life that is moving and logical today. Cost for each worship is $45 for one day, and $75 for both days.

On Sunday, Sept. 29 at noon, Michael will lead local priests and ministers in a Mass of Creation Spirituality. All local churches and people, Catholic and non-Catholic, are invited to participate and to join in communion. Protestant ministers will be invited to join Catholic priests as celebrants at our Table of Communion.

A special puppet show by His Hands Puppetry will offer a program for the entire family, entitled "The Light of the World," at the Jubilee Christian Center on Sunday, Sept. 29, 6:30 p.m. The address is 4650 Shirley Gate Road, Fairfax. The 42-member "Chor St. Nicolai" from Einbeck, Germany, will be giving a free concert at Centreville United Methodist Church on Friday, Oct. 4 at 7:30 p.m. Dr. Uwe-Jens and Karin Salzer will direct the choir. Karin Salzer founded the Chor St. Nicolai in 1980. It is composed of members ranging in age from 11 to adult. The 2002 U.S. tour will include concerts in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia, with a final performance in Disney's Magic Kingdom.

* Women's Bible Study — The Women's Ministry is starting two new studies for the fall.

* A study on the book "Prophetic Foundations" by C. Peter Wagner will meet on Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Virginia Run area. Christ the Redeemer Episcopal Church will be working with Habitat for Humanity to build a townhouse on Stevenson Street in the City of Fairfax for a family in need. A free Children's Harvest Carnival will be held on Thursday, Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m., sponsored by Word of Grace Fellowship. This is a safe alternative to "trick-or-treating" and will be an evening of fun, games, rides and candy. There will be two inflatable obstacle courses, midway games, and motorcycle rides. Centreville United Methodist Church Women's Annual Craft Fair and Bazaar will take place Nov. 2 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a silent auction, luncheon, crafters, bake sale, White House Ornaments, Secret Santa Room for the children, and baby-sitting provided for a small fee. Proceeds benefit local, state and world missions.
