Pupppies Abandoned by Roadside

Montgomery County Police are seeking information in a case of animal abandonment and animal cruelty.

On April 3, an unidentified Good Samaritan moving a cardboard box she found on Bradley Boulevard between Fernwood Road and Burdette Road found five puppies in the box.

The Good Samaritan transported the puppies to the animal shelter in Rockville for care.

The retriever-mix puppies were treated for dehydration and flea infestation. At press time, the puppies were still being treated by the vet. They will not be available for adoption until after they have been brought back to full health. Even then, they may be placed in a foster home before they are made available.

The Animal Services Division of the police is investigating the case. The division is also looking for the mother dog, since the puppies are too young to be away from her.

Animal abandonment carries a fine of $100 and animal cruelty a fine of $1,000, 90 days in jail, or both.

The Montgomery County Humane Society is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible. Call 240-773-5925 x4 or 240-773-5960.
