Members of Girl Scout Service Unit 51-5 (North Reston) will be hold their annual Sing for Food on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 3 to 7:30 p.m. at the Giant Food store in the North Point Village Center in Reston. The girls and their leaders will sing traditional holiday carols as well as other wintertime songs. The public is invited to join in. The scouts are hoping to collect shopping carts full of non-perishable foods and personal care items for the Reston Interfaith pantry.
Reston Runners will hold their 9th annual Fall into Winter Run/Walk on Dec. 13 at South Lakes High School in Reston. The event benefits the Joy of Sports Foundation. Participants will have two courses to chose from, a 10K timed run through Reston roadways with awards; or a 5K timed run/walk through wooded pathways. The Reston Garden Club will hold its annual fundraiser, a Holiday Greens Sale, at the North Point Village Shopping Center on Reston Parkway, on Saturday, Dec. 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Club members will prune fresh greens and create fresh, natural wreaths, swags, centerpieces, baskets and ornaments for purchase. The Northern Virginia Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is seeking volunteers for nursing homes or assisted living facilities in their community which they visit weekly. Listening, observing and mediating, the ombudsman works with the residents, their families and the facility staff to ensure that residents' rights are protected.
