The Sterling Lions Club will host the 26th annual Terry McGowan Invitational Wrestling Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 13, beginning at 9 a.m., at Park View High School, 400 West Laurel Ave., Sterling. The community outreach program features eight high school teams from around the region competing in 14 weight classes. Sterling Lions member Dwight Brooks has chaired the event for the past 20 years, taking over for event founder, Terry McGowan, who retired to Texas. McGowan's son Scott was a star on the Park View wrestling team. Admission is $6 for adults; $5 for students; $1 for children ages 4-11. The Loudoun Arts Council (LAC) has extended the deadline for students to submit their entry forms for the 2004 Excellence in the Arts program. The new deadline is Dec. 15. Information and entry forms can be obtained from high school art, drama, English and dance teachers, or guidance counselors, in the private and public schools, or from the LAC office. The Lions Club of Sterling is cooperation with Melodee Music of Sterling will host the annual James A. Bland Music Scholarship Competition on Sunday, Feb. 22 at 1:30 p.m. This year's competition will be held at Melodee Music Center in the lower level music education and recital complex. Admission is free and open to all. The winners of the competition go on to a regional contest in March. The contest is open to all elementary, junior and senior high students with instrumental or vocal ability. An application form and list of rules is available by writing to Sterling Lions Club, P. O. Tickets are on sale for the St. Theresa School's 10th anniversary celebration, "Mardi Gras Ball and Auction," to be held Friday, Feb. 6 at the Hyatt Regency Reston at Reston Town Center. The evening begins at 7 p.m. with a silent auction, hors d'oeuvres and complimentary beer and wine. A sit-down dinner will be held at 9 p.m. with a live auction and dancing to follow. Sports Performance Institute will hold a Sports Specific Football Combine (Test) on Jan. 4 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the NCC Sports Complex in Lansdowne (Xerox). Any athlete age 12-18 who wants to improve their skills is invited to attend at a cost of $45 per person. Combine will measure every aspect of a player's game and allow them to see how they stack up against players from across Loudoun and Fairfax County.
