Snow Extends Very Long Weekend

School Kids Get Week-Long Break

Except for the slight ping of sleet on the roof on Sunday night, the quiet of snow baffled every other sound for three days, extending the President’s Day weekend from Valentine’s Day on Friday all the way through Tuesday for federal employees.

School children saw their on-again President’s Day holiday go off-again, with two more days added to the end of the school year in June to make up for the classes that were missed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Moisture from the Gulf of Mexico collided with a mass of Arctic air from Canada to produce nearly two feet of snow in Great Falls over the long weekend.

By Tuesday, most local roads were open, but some driveways still beseeched “friendly snowplows” to stop in.

High temperatures in the 40s and 50s held out the promise that the snow would be gone by this weekend, with rain predicted on Friday and Saturday.
