At South Lakes High

South Lakes is proud to have two National Merit Finalists this year: seniors Emily Howard and Sonya Khan. Emily and Sonya are now eligible for various scholarships from universities, the National Merit Corporation, and other corporate sources.

Due to the previous week’s snow day, the winter pep rally was rescheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 12. After the South Lakes Singers performed the National Anthem, students and staff were entertained by a basketball shoot-out, a slam dunk competition, a refrigerator box race and a performance by the Dance Team, choreographed to the music of pop artists such as Missy Elliot and Three Doors Down.

On Thursday, Feb. 13, South Lakes hosted a “Celebration in Black,” an evening of poetry, music, and dance in honor of Black History Month. Student soloists sang songs, faculty members read poems, and dance classes performed African dances choreographed by both the students and dance teacher Terlene Terry-Todd.

Last week the Theatre Arts Department held auditions for "Singin’ in the Rain," which will premiere on May 1 in South Lakes’ Little Theatre. The show will be directed by Maria Harris and include about 40 cast members and 20 crew members.
