Virginia PTA's Health Committee has selected the Terra Centre Elementary School PTA in Burke as one of the recipients of the Family Fitness Mini-Grants for 2002-2003. The Terra Centre PTA will receive $300 to be used to plan a family fitness program or project and implement it during the 2002-2003 school year.

Meghan Newell, a senior at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, was chosen out of 75 eligible participants to be one of 12 finalists for the fifth annual Eastern Dance Association/Kaepa U.S.A. Best All Around Dancer (BAD) Education Scholarship Awards. She has been invited to attend EDA’s Finals Dance Team Championship to compete against other finalists for the $1,000 educational scholarship.
Long & Foster Real Estate is offering a $125,000 Scholarship Program for well-rounded graduating high school seniors entering an accredited four-year college or university. All applications must be received by the deadline date of March 3, 2003, in order for the selection committee, comprised of local members of academia, to select the final scholarship winners by Spring 2003.
The Long & Foster Scholarship Program will award $1,000 to each of 125 worthy recipients throughout the region for the 2003-2004 academic year. The monetary scholarship award will be made payable directly to the college or university in the student's name. Once the winners have been selected the scholarships will be awarded beginning May 1, 2003. Applications for the Long & Foster Scholarship Program can be obtained from any of Long & Foster's 200 residential sales offices located throughout the Mid-Atlantic region, from high school guidance counselors, via Long & Foster's Web Site at www.longandfoster.com/scholarship or by calling 1-703-359-1750 (9 a.m. - 5 p.m.).

The children and families of the Boyd School in Fairfax helped the children of CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) celebrate the holidays. Boyd School children gave toys and food to help these neglected children share in the joy of the season.
The City of Fairfax Band is offering a $2,000 scholarship to the winner of its 2003 Young Artists Competition. All Northern Virgnia high school juniors and seniors are eligible. The recipient also will make a special guest appearance with the City of Fairfax Band featuring guest conductor David Holsinger on Saturday, March 22, 2003.
