Summer Music and Activities for Kids, or "S.M.A.K.," a program for children in grades one through six, will meet every Tuesday, 1-4 p.m., through August, at Jerusalem Baptist Church, 5424 Ox Road, Fairfax Station. For more information, call Pat at 703-278-8166.

Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 5114 Twinbrook Road, Fairfax, has many activities to keep youngsters in the community safe, busy, and happy during the summer.

Children grades 1-6 are welcome to take part at the church site in the Sports & Games Camp (July 28 - Aug. 1). Seventh graders and older are invited to be camp counselors. Each camp costs $40 per child with a maximum of $80 per family.

Vacation Bible School, the "Son Harvest County Fair," is open to 3-year-olds through sixth graders from Aug. 4-8. Cost of VBS is $20 for each child or $50 maximum per family during early registration. Costs are $25 per child and $60 maximum during late registration. Lord of Life Lutheran Church Vacation Bible School. Children 3-years-old through sixth grade can come Aug. 4-8, 9 a.m.-12 p.m. for the "Son Harvest County Fair," featuring songs, skits, crafts, games, Bible stories and snacks. A family picnic and finale is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 9. Fees are $25 per child or $60 maximum per family. Those interested can fill out the blue registration forms at the church and pay the fee at that time. Scholarships based on need are also available. Located at 5114 Twinbrook Road, Fairfax.

Messiah United Methodist Church will host a singles dance with a Hawaiian luau theme on July 26. Dance lessons will begin at 7:45 p.m., and the dance will be from 8:30-12 p.m. Cost is $5 with a dish and $10 without. The church is located at 6215 Rolling Road in Springfield. An ancient tool of meditation, the labyrinth, is coming to Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church in Burke on Aug. 3. The Sunday morning service at 10 a.m. will focus on the origins and use of the labyrinth. The guest speaker will be Dexter Fox, a member of Trinity Episcopal Church of Manassas. He has been a part of Trinity's Labyrinth Support Team since the church acquired one in 1999. All are invited to return to the Accotink sanctuary that day, from 6:30-9 p.m. to walk the labyrinth. The Truro Episcopal Church Used Book Sale. Aug. 8, 12-5 p.m., Aug. 9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Aug. 10, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. The church will gladly receive contributions of books, videos, DVDs and video cassettes. Children's books are especially desired. This year's Accotink Unitarian Universalist Church's summer trip will be to Asheville, N.C., and the Biltmore Mansion and Estate. Participants will leave from Springfield Mall aboard a motor coach on the morning of Thursday, Aug. 21, and will return the evening of Sunday, Aug. 24. Events include a tour of the Biltmore Mansion, a tour and tasting at an Asheville winery, a luncheon at the Deerpark Cafe on the estate, as well as a guided tour of historic Asheville and a trip to the Folk Art Center on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The trip includes three nights at a new Country Inn and Suites Hotel, three breakfasts, two dinners, lunch at the Biltmore, all tour fees, transportation and gratuities at a price of $468 per person, based on double occupancy. Wednesday Series, "Get a Life." Now through August, Pastor Bill Frasnelli and Associate Pastor Mike Colon will present a weekly series based on Ephesians. Burke Community Church offers a weekly group for men called Men’s Fraternity to help discover authentic manhood as directed through the Word of God. Tuesdays, 6 a.m., at 9900 Old Keene Mill Road, Springfield.

The Ekoji Buddhist Temple of the greater Washington, D.C., area supports the practice of Shin Buddhists.
