Please accept my heartiest welcome to our area. You have made a wonderful choice in selecting this location as your new home. Fairfax County is unique in providing high-quality service, as well as a multitude of enriching educational, cultural, and recreational activities to enjoy. Our school system is one of the best in the nation, providing quality instruction for all students. Our police, fire and emergency services are nationally recognized as pre-eminent in their fields as well.
Dranesville District has some of the finest recreational and cultural activities, sporting events, restaurants, musical venues and shopping close to home. We are fortunate to have at our fingertips 64 parks including The Turner Farm, Great Falls National Park and Wolf Trap Farm Park, the only national park dedicated to the performing arts.
We are very excited about our newest park, Clemyjontri Park in McLean, which will open to the public in 2004. This park, a magnificent gift of an 18-acre estate at the intersection of Dolley Madison Boulevard and Georgetown Pike, will include the first fully accessible playground in the county where children with and without disabilities can play side by side, sharing the same excitement and thrills, limited only by their imaginations.
Our community continues to add important amenities in Dranesville District. In downtown McLean, we are continuing a community visioning process to enhance and revitalize our business center, including new streetscape, undergrounding utilities, and encouraging other business and residential investments. As you drive through downtown, you will see much evidence of these ongoing improvements.
Through the efforts of the Fairfax County Park Authority and Friends of McLean Central Park, the park now includes the addition of a gazebo and tot lot as well as new walkways, lighting, benches, picnic tables, and landscaping.
New and improved sports have been made available to address the needs of both children and adults in the numerous sports organizations which add to the array of available activities in our community.
