Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Juan Saldana, son of Martha

Saldana of Springfield, is preparing to reboard ships of the USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group while assigned to the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, based in Camp Lejeune, N.C. Saldana's unit had been on a routine overseas deployment since August 2002, participating in exercises and operations in Djibouti, Kosovo, Kenya, the Arabian Gulf and Iraq. Saldana is a 2000 graduate of Annandale High School and joined the Marine Corps in June 2000.

Air Force Cadet Jason B. McClure has graduated from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo. The graduate received a bachelor of science degree and was commissioned as a second lieutenant. McClure is scheduled to attend the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, Calif., with subsequent intelligence officer training at Goodfellow Air Force Base, San Angelo, Texas. McClure received degrees in military history/foreign area studies with a minor in Spanish at the academy. He is the son of Bruce P. McClure of Pacifica Drive, San Diego, Calif., and Margaret S. McClure of Shootingstar Drive, Springfield. The new lieutenant is a 1999 graduate of Robert E. Lee High School.

Marine Corps 1st Lt. John W. McGee III, a 1996 graduate of West Springfield High School, recently completed a two-week bilateral training exercise with Albanian military forces while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), based in Camp Lejeune, N.C. The unit is currently aboard the USS Iwo Jima.

Marine Corps 2nd Lt. David J. Lee Jr., son of Carol H. and David J. Lee of Springfield, recently completed a two-week bilateral training exercise with Albanian military forces while assigned to the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU), based in Camp Lejeune, N.C. The unit is currently aboard the USS Iwo Jima. Lee joined the Marine Corps in May 2001.
