<sh>Assault Charge for Hayfield Girl

<bt>Fairfax County Police charged a 14-year-old female-student following an incident at Hayfield Secondary School. On Feb. 25, the student was being interviewed by a school employee and the school resource officer about a larceny that had occurred at the school. Police allege that the student became disorderly and hit the school employee. The girl reportedly pushed and hit a second employee who had come to the aid of the first employee.

When the school resource officer attempted to arrest the student, the girl resisted arrest and struck the police officer. Once the student was taken into custody, the resource officer allegedly found a knife under her coat. The student, who is from the Lorton area, was taken to Juvenile Intake and charged with assault on a police officer, possession of a concealed weapon on school grounds, two charges of assault on a school employee and obstruction of justice. The officer and the school employees were not seriously injured.

<sh>Bias Literature

<bt>Fairfax County Police are investigating several bias incidents in the Burke area which occurred during the week of Feb. 23 through March 1. An organization distributed anti-American literature on driveways on Wallingford Drive, Kirkfield Road and of Jackson Street, all in the Burke area. The incidents are under investigation.
